I must admit, I've
been dreading this moment a little bit because I never feel like I have any great answers for these questions.
(For my friends and family who are reading this and have no idea what this is
all about- There's a little 'tagging' game circulating around the blog-sphere. When tagged, one must answer a list of questions before tagging other bloggers. This is a nice way
to get to know each other a bit better but also for readers to find out a
bit more about the person behind the blog.)
These are the rules:
1. Respond and
rework: Answer the questions on your blog, replace one question that you
dislike with a question of your invention, add one more question of
your own.
2. Tag eight other
people.
And my answers:
What is your current
obsession? Delft Blauw. It started when I decided
to redecorate our lounge but was reluctant to replace the navy-blue fitted
carpet due to cost. So I came up with a blue, white and grey scheme that would
work around the problem and then had the ‘crazy idea’ of doing a feature wall
with ceramic plates in blue and white patterns, as a kind of homage to both my mother
and grandmother, who display plates on their walls. It was a short journey from
that idea to a complete obsession with Delft Blauw patterns.
Coffee
or tea? Coffee first thing in the morning (or else,
my brain won’t switch on), Yorkshire tea (with milk) any other time of the day,
Camomile tea before bedtime and Rooibos (red bush tea) with milk when I'm not
feeling well.
What’s for dinner? Tonight there's a choice of leftovers- couscous with
butternut squash and chickpeas, seasoned with chillies and smoked paprika.
Or chicken Harrisa (an aromatic and spicy paste used in North-African cooking)
with cherry tomatoes and Calamata olives.
What was the last
thing you bought? A beautiful little hand-painted
saucer for 50p! I bought it a few of hours ago when I walked past the thrift
shop and saw it in the window.
What are you
listening to right now? I am actually listening
to LBC (talk radio) right now; because I am taking a comprehensive English exam
this weekend and I am hoping to get some ideas for the speaking test. Otherwise,
I usually listen to Kings of Leon, Keane, The Killers, Snow patrol, and Razorlight.
What is your
favourite piece of clothing in your own wardrobe? I have a black A-line dress (think Audrey Hepburn
style with a little sleeve) that I just love to bits! I wear it all the time
and it can easily be dressed up for the evening or down for day to day.
What is your
favourite ice cream flavour? Honeycomb.
What do you think of
the person(s) who tagged you? Aw, Lorna is very
sweet. She interviewed me for an interior design magazine and I had so much fun
working with her and answering her questions. She is lovely and supportive and I
am so glad she ‘found me’.
If you could go anywhere in the world for the next hour, where would you go? Machu Picchu in Peru.
Which language do you
want to learn? French. My grandparents speak fluent
French and I’ve always wanted to learn it too.
What is your
favourite colour? Shades of turquoise and aqua.
What is your dream job?
Being a mother would probably be the job I will enjoy
doing the most, but it will be a couple more years before that happens so from a
professional point of view I've decided to go study communication,
curation and criticism of art and design so I can freelance as a writer and
consultant when I finally decide to have children.
If you had £100 now,
what would you spend it on? Beautiful art from
Etsy sellers.
What book are you
currently reading? I capture the castle by
Dodie Smith. It’s a real classic and I highly recommend it.
Describe your
personal style? My style, in all different aspects, could probably be described as Modern simplicity.
What are you going to
do after this? Agh! I’m going to go back to
practicing for my exam. I need a really good score or else I will have to
retake it.
What are your
favourite movies? I am very specific when it
comes to watching movies and more often than not will refuse to waste time
watching big Hollywood blockbusters. There
are, however, three types of movies that I love and am always willing to watch:
Animation, French movies and anything with Matt Damon!
What inspires you? Nature inspires me more than anything and since I’ve
started experimenting with photography- light inspires me to no end. But I’m
also inspired by people’s talents and the beautiful things they create.
What is your
favourite fruit? Loquats and lychees.
Do you collect
something? Being the nature lover that I am, I
always pick up feathers, twigs and seashells on my walks in the park or on the
beach. We were recently in Miami, Florida for a few days and the evidence is
a collection of shells, now on display in our lounge.
If you could change
your name to anything, what would you call yourself? This is a funny one because I have actually changed my
name. My given name was the Hebrew name Naama, which means a pleasant or lovely
girl. I had a lot of trouble with it because it is so hard to pronounce and I
also didn’t feel like it suited me. So on my 30th birthday I
had it legally changed to Naomi (which has the same Hebrew meaning) and it’s
the best thing I’ve ever done. It had a remarkably positive impact on my life and I
almost wish I had done it a few years earlier.
How many times do you
press the snooze button before you get up? I’ve
never used the snooze button in my life.
What is your
favourite smell? The smell of freshness after
the rain (that smell doesn’t seem to exist in London but in definitely does in
other places I’ve lived).
What is your biggest
regret? Not changing my name earlier? ;)
What are you most
proud of? Getting a place to study at Central
Saint Martins this year!
Cats or dogs? Both. I’m a nature lover and I don’t discriminate between
any living creatures (except for spiders- they are not allowed in my house and
they know it!)
What’s your biggest
fashion mistake? I don’t think I've ever worn anything
crazy enough to regret.
What is your guilty
TV pleasure? I only watch TV when I’m
ill in bed, in which case I’d watch whatever is on. But otherwise we tend to
buy DVD sets of the shows we like and watch it at our own convenience.
What did you want to
be when you grew up? I think I’ve always
wanted to be a writer because from the moment I learned how to put pencil to
paper and draw letters, the world only made sense through the words and
sentences I strung together.
So there
you have it!
Phew…
I had to
drop a couple of questions because it was getting a bit too long for me. I
hope you don’t mind.
